木村暁が、合田真さん(浜松医科大学)などと米国ウッズホール海洋生物学研究所（MBL）に滞在し、井上信也博士らが開発した「遠心偏光顕微鏡(CPM)」という特殊な顕微鏡を使って、細胞を高速で回転するステージに設置して顕微鏡撮影を行うことで細胞核を中央に留めておく力を計測することに成功しました。
