In collaboration with Akira Funahashi (Keio University) and colleagues, we combined mechanical modeling and live-cell experiments to show that the transition from nuclear centration to spindle elongation depends on a shift in the strength of microtubule attachment to the cell cortex. This study revealed a key mechanical principle underlying the sequential microtubule-dependent processes within the cell.
