During a stay at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL), Woods Hole, USA, Akatsuki Kimura and collaborators including Makoto Goda (Hamamatsu University School of Medicine) successfully measured the forces responsible for maintaining the nucleus at the cell center. Using a custom-built centrifugal polarization microscope (CPM) developed by Dr. Shinya Inoue and colleagues, we imaged cells mounted on a rapidly rotating stage to quantify the centering force.
