Swirling Instability mediated by Elastic and Hydrodynamic Couplings in Cytoplasmic Streaming.

In collaboration with Takuji Ishikawa (Tohoku University) and Hirofumi Wada (Ritsumeikan University), we constructed a three-dimensional simulation model to study the reversal of cytoplasmic streaming. This work demonstrated that the elasticity of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) contributes to both the initiation and reversal of streaming, consistent with our previous experimental findings. Takayuki Torisawa performed the measurements of cytoplasmic viscoelasticity.
